Baru-baru ini satu pertandingan pidato dalam Bahasa Melayu telah diadakan pada  2-5 Mac 2010. Menarik sekali melihat para peserta yang berbilang bangsa dan dari pelbagai negara mencuba kemampuan mereka bersaing untuk berpidato dalam Bahasa Melayu.

Pertandingan Pidato Antarabangsa Bahasa Melayu Piala Perdana Menteri merupakan suatu usaha memperluaskan penggunaan Bahasa Melayu ke arena antarabangsa.

 

Bahasa Melayu telah diketahui sebagai bahasa kelima terbesar di dunia dan ianya amat penting  kepada kepesatan tamadun manusia dan boleh digunakan untuk komunikasi dan pengantar.

 

Pertandingan ini telah disertai oleh peserta dari pelbagai negara dan membuktikan kemampuan Bahasa Melayu sebagai bahasa utama dunia. Ia juga diterima sebagai subjek pilihan di beberapa pusat pengajian tinggi ternama dunia. Bahasa Melayu sememangnya wajar dipelajari kerana ia pernah menjadi sebuah bahasa "lingua franca" dan ianya mampu menyumbang terhadap pembentukan peradaban.
