One of the best methods of learning a foreign language is through singing the song in the target language. It was proven that relating music and language in learning foreign language classes can assist learners acquire the skill naturally. This "melodic" approach is based on evidence that musicality of speech has an effect not only on the pronunciation skills of students but also their entire acquisition process( ELT Journal, 2000).
Malay is a language that is quite flexible in a way that it has a large vocabulary especially in describing beauty and expressing emotions in songs with a lot of implying and hinting. We have learnt a word which was used colloquially when one exressed anger. Now, let's listen to a beautiful composition which was favourited by a lot of our fathers but nevertheless, evergreen to the ears.
This song has a lot of words expressing yearning and longing for a beautiful lass but it is never direct. Even when criticising people, a more conservative Malay will only gives hints. Typical of Malay culture where being too direct and upfront can be considered rude. It also comprised a poem commonly known to most Malaysian in its last paragraphs.
